Elements and Performance Criteria

  1. Plan and prepare for drying activities
  2. Start-up equipment in sequence
  3. Operate and monitor equipment
  4. Shutdown in sequence and/or isolate equipment
  5. Conduct housekeeping activities

Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies applicable legislation, documentation, policies and procedures

implements requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective conducting of drying activities including:

selecting and using relevant tools and equipment

handling dangerous materials

reading and interpreting instrumentation

operating lift equipment (manual, cranes and loads)

diagnosing faults and performing troubleshooting

works with others to undertake and complete the conduct of drying activities that meets all of the required outcomes including:

using a range of communications techniques and equipment to convey information to others

maintaining written and verbal reporting requirements and procedures

communicating to confirm work requirements

passing on end of shift information

reviewing plant performance with oncoming shift

demonstrates completion of the conduction of drying that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

completing equipment start-up in sequence

correctly operating and monitoring equipment including:

starting up drying plant,

monitoring drying process,

taking and interpreting data from equipment indicator readings to determine drying efficiency

inspecting operations/plant and catchment areas/sumps to identify drying process defects and potential problems

adjusting equipment to approved operating parameters to optimise and maintain efficient drying and to meet product quality targets

taking samples and conducting tests

adding reagents to approved operating parameters
